WordPress 2.1 … To upgrade or not leh? Finally I did it.

My old WordPress was in version 1.5.2  Yup it’s that old. I’ve upgraded once before and it took me one hell of a time to do it. Scary and nightmarish.

The other day Narrowband gave me some tips on upgrading/installing WordPress using Fantastico and I decided to try it out. Yes it’s so simple. Aiyooo now I can upgrade anytime I want. Narrowband, thank you!

Any hiccups for my new WordPress 2.1? Well actually there ARE.
1. Blogroll fail (solved it liao!)
2. More-Smilies plugin fail (install latest version, solved!)
3. My Technorati ‘Quick Tags’ Tag missing (solved it by installing a new quicktags plugin coz no idea why if I write my own code in quicktags.js cannot work)
4. Some of my quicktags such as CA-Picker plugin and additional tags that I added are not visible in Write Post but visible only after I have save the post. (no idea why!!!)

But anyway, they are all minor glitch. So hurrah…

I happily blog without caring about all of these … as long as my words get out there … everything else is secondary.

Still … congratulations. I don’t see any difference … so … that must be sign of a successful upgrade ?

Ur welcome, btw. Glad u got it up and running. I haven’t really explored WP 2.1, although I upgraded it it in my test blog.

So… do you recommend the upgrade? I still think the backing-up process is abit leceh. Hai…

Lilian, hahaha becoz I’m lazy. But since I know the short cut liao then no harm upgrading it everytime. You use Fantastico too right?

Narrowband, I don’t see much changes after upgrade but just upgrade la. Hey upgrading is easy what? Just click the “Generate/Download a full backup” link at C Panel and it will generate a backup for the whole of our database and posts. Then you can save it in your PC directory.

Mo-C, hehe I’m not good la. Ask people for advise baru tau.

Yvy, I use a plugin called SimpleTags = http://www.broobles.com/scripts/simpletags/. I also added a ‘Tag’ button at my WP quicktags. Therefore I don’t have to tag it manually every time. Most people said it’s useful. I’ve seen some search from technorati tags landing on my site…so ‘quite’ useful.

p/s: quicktags are shortcut buttons found in your WP write post screen. Eg. b = bold, i = italic, link = insert link
