Hong Kong Day 2: Victoria Peak Garden, Shopping & Sai Ying Pun

Check out Hong Kong Day 1: HKIA, First Airbnb & Duk Ling if you haven’t.

Woke up around 7am plus on day 2. Had cheese bread bought from the previous day for brekkie. By the time we’re ready to rock, it’s nearly 9am.

By the way, we checked the weather forecast and noted that there will be rain on Tuesday onward (day 3). We planned for an outdoor activity on day 3, and because of the forecast rain, we changed it to day 2 which is today.

We took MTR to Central station, and from there walked to The Peak Tram Lower Terminus at Garden Road. Yup, we’re visiting Victoria Peak aka The Peak again (my second time) but this time we’re doing something different. We’re visiting Victoria Peak Garden. I bet most of you haven’t heard about this place before.

Bank Of China Tower @ Central, Hong Kong
If you’d watched HK TVB dramas from a long time ago, I’m sure you’re able to recognize this building which regularly appears in TVB dramas. This is Bank of China Tower. We passed by it on the way to The Peak Tram Lower Terminus.

Hong Kong Day 1: HKIA, First Airbnb & Duk Ling

Cheong hei (long-winded) travel post as usual. Lots of $aver tips below!

Prologue

I didn’t go on a vacation last year. So, this year I make sure to get at least one out of it. I have three choices when it comes to my next holiday destination. Hong Kong was one of it. I was almost in a position of doing my first ever solo backpacking trip, so I choose Hong Kong since I’ve been there twice before, and I think it’s kinda okay for solo woman traveller. But then I got myself a travel partner – my sis! So this became our 4th overseas siblings-only vacation.

My previous Hong Kong trip was 7 years ago (2011) and since then I have been looking forward to my next trip so that I can stuff myself silly with more yummy food. So, for this 5 days and 4 nights (22nd April to 26th April 2018) trip, it’s all about FOOD, FOOD, FOOD! Funnily, it wasn’t food that blows me away, but new experiences. After this latest trip, my love for Hong Kong declined a lot!!! Wanna know why? Then you gotta follow my 2018 Hong Kong travelogue.

AirAsia
In order to travel budget, we choose AirAsia. I’m still not fond of the super loooooong walk to the boarding gate. On the positive side, it’s good exercise! Two and half years ago, I mentioned in my Taiwan post that there is only one water dispenser throughout the length of the departure hall (at P10) of KLIA2. This time, they have installed one more at P3. Now, this is better.

Best Personal Souvenir From Japan – Goshuin-Chō 御朱印帳

When I was writing about my Nara trip early this year (2017), I first mentioned about goshuin-chō 御朱印帳 and that it’s the best souvenir one can get for oneself from Japan. At that time, I was visiting Todai-ji 東大寺, my very first temple visit in Japan, where I came across this seal book. Although I came to know about goshuin-chō (pre-trip) and decided not to get it (pre-trip also), I was in deep dilemma when facing the real deal. “Should I get it or should I not get it?” Ohh I asked this questions many times in my head and to my travel partners.

My heart told me to get it because it’s a very unique momento as one can only get it in Japan.
My mind told me “Hey, it’s expensive!”. “You need to pay for the seal book and also the seals.”

In the end, I went with my heart. ❤️
Did I made the right choice? Wholeheartedly a big YES!

For those who has never heard of goshuin-chō, you must be scratching your head by now. Allow me to explain what it is and the thrills of collecting goshuin 御朱印 (seals) at temples and shrines as well as watching getting it sealed.

What’s goshuin-chō?

Tokyo Day 15 & 16: Tsukiji Market, Meiji Jingu & Goodbye

Day 15. What did I have for breakfast? I dunno anymore. Haha

Before we leave our hostel to enjoy our very last full day in Japan, we requested our hostel to book a taxi for the next day at the wee hours of 5am.

We also took this chance to soak in the atmosphere of Sumida river that is situated right in front of our hostel.

Morning At Sumida River @ Tokyo
8.30am fall morning view of Sumida river. Just less than a minute walk from our hostel.

At this point, after having traveled for 14 days in Japan, things become fuzzy. There are some things that I forgot to do or have forgotten already. One of it is what I ate for breakfast on day 14 (forgot to take a snapshot). Hahaha Anyway, that’s not important.

I actually planned to go to Rikugien for, yet more koyo but decided perhaps it was more than enough already for this trip. Instead, we head to the Farmer’s Market at UNU. Oh yes! ✌️

We left the hostel at 9am and took the subway to Omotesando Station. On the way, my sis chanced upon Moomin’s bowl set at KFC. What else? She bought KFC and are now a proud owner of the Moomin bowl set. Haha

United Nations University & Farmer's Market At UNU aka Aoyama Farmer's Market @ Tokyo
This is the United Nations University or UNU for short, for which the farmers’s market is held every weekend (Sat & Sun) from 10am-4pm. See the tents? It’s also known as Aoyama farmer’s market. We arrived around 10.30am.
