Chester’s Bloody Diarrhea

Anyone miss us?

Chester and I just came back from our separate vacation few days ago. My dog spent nearly a week at a home boarding while I went on a short trip.

On the day Chester came home, I was told that he had diarrhea once in the morning at the boarding place. Come evening at home, my dog has another round of diarrhea and no appetite to eat. Hence I added some milk to his kibbles (since he likes milk). He ate most of it. Not long after that my worst nightmare started. Chester had diarrhea practically in every 1-2 hours interval. This went on until 3am in the morning. A total of 7-8 times diarrhea!

The next day, I found 4 piles of diarrhea near our toilet and a pile of vomited kibbles near our front door. I shouldn’t have given him the milk. Aiyaaa. On this 2nd day he had diarrhea a total of nearly 10 times!!! What’s worrying is that his diarrhea contain some ‘pale red/dark red’ blood. I brought him to the vet in the morning with the diarrhea sample. The vet said he might have eaten something dirty or got sick due to waterborne bacteria at the boarding place. Doc gave him a ‘food’ jab since he has not eaten anything in over 12 hours and another jab to help stop the diarrhea.

The diarrhea went on until night (even after seeing the vet). Following doc advice, I fed him i/d and some rice in the evening. My dog finished ’em all. Fhewwww.

i/d is a prescription wet food that will help stop diarrhea.

On the 3rd day (which was yesterday), he passed out a slightly less watery stool with some blood in the morning. No poo-poo in the evening though. His food is still i/d and rice. And after that medicine.

Chester’s medicine. I shoved them into his throat and asked him to drink water but he refused. Why dog has no fear of having something stuck in the throat?

Today the 4th day, his morning stool is even less watery. In the afternoon he passed out a nice looking stool+some blood but few minutes later, another diarrhea+dark red blood. Aiyoooo…

All in all in this four days, Chester looked alright and active. He can smile, he can bark and he can play. He can also hamsup-hamsup with his blanket and wink at us. A funny side which I noticed is that every time my dog is doing his diarrhea business, he will make a grumpy/annoying sound like an old man!

We weighted Chester at the vet, my dog is 1kg lighter compared to a month ago when we were there for his annual jab. Sigh.

I hope his diarrhea will go away soon. Hwaiting Chester!!!

Updates:
Chester didn’t poo-poo at all on the 5th day. Doc said rice will cause constipation for dogs. So on the 6th day morning (Saturday), I fed him kibbles+id. He poop a small stool out (no blood). Yipee!

p/s: The most important thing when your dog has diarrhea is to make sure he drinks enough water.

Awwww, I know what it feels to see your pooch with diarrhea. At least your house has tiled floors, carpets so susah to clean up. My vet also send along Hills Prescription Diet for my boys when they have diarrhea and not eating. Hope Chester gets better soon.

Wah carpet… won’t it leaves a bad smell? Chester did 3 times on a long rug and my mom threw the rug away. Haha

Chester is getting better. No bloody diarrhea this morning. Will see how in the evening.

The clean up on carpets needs a lot of work – pet clean up spray, odor spray, diluted ammonia with baking soda solution, then use mini carpet shampooer to deep clean it (add baking soda in it too). If the dogs did it on the rug, yes we will trash it, but carpet….too expensive to replace. nothing beats tiled floor.

Must have been a very scary experience. Next time better look for another boarding place?

Oh yeah scary. He never had bloody diarrhea before until that very day.

Hmm I guess it’s not the carer fault. Chester must have eaten something.
