Loofah, luffa or lufah – the answer to my question in my ‘what is this‘ post.

This is how it looks inside. My mom has removed the seed.

Luffa

And it’s use for dish washing…or bathing sponge.

Luffa

Initially I thought this is some kind of fruit or veggies. But when the pasar malam lady told me in hokkien it is called ‘zhe kueh’ or ‘khak kueh’…I don’t remember which one liao anyway I thought this has something to do with chicken because kueh is chicken in hokkien.

In Malay, it is simply called petola. I know I’m a ‘katak dibawah tempurung’.

I got my answer from grandma and maid. Hehe

not chicken lah dear. it’s kua (as in melon or gourd).

and how come you guys pronounce chicken as kueh? here we pronouce it kei.

loofah is the dried insides of a some kind melon. my mother’s friend gave her one but we kept it in the kitchen for too long and until it produced some kinda weird smell. so my mum threw it away.
