After 12 long years with Jaring dail-up, I’ve switched to using broadband for my home PC and unfortunately I’d no choice but to choose Streamyx. I’ve no qualm for using dialup except for the expensive telephone bill.
We choose Streamyx Combo-In-A-Box package whereby a self-installer CD is included inside. This way we don’t have to pay RM88 in installation fee.
Now, here’s where I think Streamyx is trying to pull a gimmick.
Hear me first.
This is the ADSL splitter provided by Streamyx. Notice where the phone, line and ADSL interfaces are located.

This is Streamyx Quick Guide hardware connection setting. Again notice the 3 interfaces.

This pulak is Streamyx Self-Installer CD hardware connection setting. Remember to pay attention at the 3 interfaces. They’re similar with the quick guide above.

Finally, this is from ADSL modem user manual.

Notice anything amiss from any of the pictures above? Actually 2 of the hardware setting pictures are incorrect. Which one? Streamyx Quick Guide and Self-Installer CD hardware setting are incorrect (2nd and 3rd picture).
Rightfully for an ADSL splitter, phone jack must be connected to phone line while ADSL and Line jack must be connected to ADSL modem and Line (phone wall socket) respectively. But the hardware setting from Streamyx Quick Guide and Self-Installer CD are showing ‘em wrong.
I was nearly fooled by it.
Is this how they trick new user to wrongly connect the hardware setting and therefore get them to pay RM88 installation fee (an installation fee of RM88 will be charged if you require installation assistance).
I sincerely don’t believe at this kind of MISTAKE lor. Where got such thing eh committing a BIG mistake as this in both the user guide and CD? :loser:
p/s: Actually the ADSL splitter provided to us (first pict) is not rightfully done. By right, ADSL and Phone interface should be side by side while Line interface must be on the other side. If like that then the user guide and CD settings are correct. I’m not sure you’re following me. ADSL splitter purpose is to split the incoming Line to ADSL and Phone. You get me?
If you don’t get me nevermind. Somehow they manage to come out with this type of splitter configuration (1st pict), make people confuse..and all. :nottalking:
So do you think this a gimmick by Streamyx? Or am i wrong or what???
pp/s: I’ve added a NuffNang poll (Which team will win Euro) on my main page.

Can’t see the poll lar.
I’m not sure about the Streamyx thingy coz I’m using Maxis 3G.
oh okay can see liao. Definitely support Spain to win this!
Hcfoo, thanks.
Maxis 3G good ar?
I think its just a mistake lah
I don’t think it’s a serious mistake cause some splitters will work even you follow the guide line by streamyx.
We, the tech students, fixed it without looking at the manuals.
By the way, do you know that the combo package last for a year only? You won’t be paying the phone rental of RM26 per month for 12 months, then after that, you have to.
Oh, just the stupid diagrams lar… but then only a few lubangs mar, sure can get it right, close eyes also can, no need to pay for installation lar. But next time if you need people to install, I do it for RM50 special-est price for you lar. :skull:  :cow:
I got my company’s IT manager to install my streamyx for me. Hehe. No manual needed.
Terrible mistake!
Till today I still can’t apply Streamyx at my house! :crying:
The wonderful instruction manuals that mis-intruct you!
I DIY everything, even the modem also dun wanna use theirs. Save the RM88 installation and RM22 monthly modem rental.
