My Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom

Gorillapod. Hmm what’s in that name?

I’m sure you must have heard or seen it before somewhere. But if you have not, allow me to explain. Gorillapod is a tripod but it’s not just ANY tripod. This is the most popular flexible tripod in the market. It can cling on anything… on branches, at door handle, on rocky surface and even human. Yes human. Why not? As long as you don’t move during snapshot.

I’ve been wanting to get my hands on a Gorillapod for the longest time. I asked my sis to get one for me when she was training oversea since the ground shipping is free. In the end she said she will buy for me FOC. Thank You mui mui. Hehe

Behold my Joby Gorillapod SLR-Zoom. I got it with the ballhead combo. (thank god for this new feature!)

I choose the SLR-Zoom version because when & if I expand my lens collection in the future, my Gorillapod can still support the weight of heavier lens. Gorillapod SLR can only support a maximum weight of 800g whereas SLR-Zoom can go up to 3kg.

I also bought an extra Bubble Level Clip and a Flash Clip (yes I can mount flash on the Gorillapod as well! though I don’t have an external flash yet haha).

What attracted me to Gorillapod is how cute it looks with its SEXY black/white legs. However this cutie remind me of a spider more than a gorilla. Don’t you think so? The built of the flexible legs is pure genius!

Testing the Gorillapod… clinging to a chair.

And this on a rocking chair!

I know I didn’t mount any camera. Lazy la. But I already tried it with my DSLR. Very stable. πŸ™‚

Now I can get creative with my photography by incorporating Gorillapod in funky angle, out of reach places and harsh terrains. I’m definitely bringing the Gorillapod to my trip early next year. Ahh can’t wait!

Now if only I have the moolah to get a wide angle lens (this: Nikon 14-24mm f/2.8G Zoom Super Wide Angle AF-S Zoom Nikkor ED Autofocus Lens).

Wow, I want one too! Seriously can it withstand the DSLR weight cause it looks so small and compact! Can we know how much it costs you?

    Tekkaus, ya ya ya πŸ™‚

Bengbeng, tell him his body will not heal properly without rest. πŸ™‚

Jam, yes definitely can withstand DSLR and even teleconverter lens (for higher range model). It’s very sturdy. You can go to Joby website and have a look. They have a few version. Just the gorillapod SLR-Zoom is about RM170. That doesn’t include the ballhead. SLR-Zoom + Ball head is about RM270+. They have coupon code 15% discount. You can find the info in Gorillapod flickr group. I’m not sure about the shipping cost to Malaysia though. I know http://shashinki.com/shop/ is selling but without the ball head.

One more thing, Joby customer service is very good. πŸ™‚
