I’m a conventional camera lover. I love to touch the finished photos in my hand and to flip through photo albums. Yeah yeah we can do that too by using digital camera. So, I realized it’s time to move on to digital world so that’s why I’m looking for a digital camera right now. This will be a family digital camera and right now my sister and me are having disagreement with the kind/brand of digital camera that we like. So if you have any experiences/suggestions/recommendations, please help us solve our problem.
Among the stuffs we agreed on:
- Slim pocket size camera(easy to carry around) and must be stylish!!!
- 5 Mega pixel or more with 3x optical zoom or more
- Lithium powered battery(longer life)
- Budget = RM1.5k or less
- and of course good image quality no matter the photos are taken indoor or outdoor.
Stuff we don’t agreed on:
- My sis prefer Canon Ixus(Ixus 55) but I don’t because the design are not stylish. I think the design is similar with the one Canon made many years ago for film camera.
- I prefer Lumix(I had fallen in love with Lumix :D). After reading Narrowband’s post about his newly purchased Lumix, I went on to read up tones of reviews about Lumix. Wow I’m satisfied with the results. The problem is my sister said she will never buy Lumix!!! She said she don’t know why…just don’t like. Argghhhh
Now how do I convince her to like Lumix ???

We are going to KLCC this weekend to check out Ixus(at Canon concept store) and Lumix(camera shop). I hope Lumix will out perform Ixus so that my sister will like Lumix. Hehehehe
Forget about Sony because it’s damn expensive. I’ve checkout Olympus too. Too bad we decided to drop Olympus as one of our preferred digital camera because of XD card. The price for XD card is almost double the price of SD card. Aiyooo…where can afford.
Anyone have any recommendation on which model to buy(don’t have to be Ixus or Lumix), pros and cons ? Help us :D

I can recommend either the Lumix or Sony. I’m not sure what the prices for the newer cameras are for but my Sony DSC T3 was about 1.6k when I bought it. May be cheaper now (if you can still find it). The one advantage Lumix has over Sony is their image stabilizing technology which you will find very useful if you have shaky hands like me.

Wyejon, thanks for the recommendation :) Yeah i have abit of shaky hands especially when i’m pressing the ‘take picture’ button. I think Ixus don’t have image stabilizing techno. How much is Sony’s 512MB card ? (if u remember)

Get a 1G SD CARD, cost RM210-240 depends on brand. With it you can get 80 min of 320×240 or 55 mins of 640×480 resolution Videos on a 4MP digicam. Also many are not aware you can use your DIGI CAM for sound recordings, and with a capped lens you can have hours of sound

i still think that the Sony T-series is still the best among the many digital camera breed. yeah, i guess the price of it does seem to be the main question.

Actually, Canon is more popular in digital camera compare to Panasonic. :) So, if I have the budget, I would go for Canon then.

My friend was having a hard time making the same decision last month. I recommended her Lumix at the end mainly because it has the shake resistance feature. Enjoy your shopping for digicam. :)

Bryan, is she satisfied with her Lumix ? I think 90% i’m going for the Lumix.

Didn’t ask her about satisfaction though. For me, I will go for Lumix too, but the final choice is still yours. :)

My Sony P10 is quite OK for outdoor pictures. But when it comes to dim indoor, the picture quality drop a bit… Also the startup time is a bit long I think, and sometimes it takes a while to auto-focus. No experience with either Canon or Lumix. Good luck.

When you “capped your lens”, no light enters and so no video recording; only sound is recorded and in effect you are stretching your SD card. You can treble your recording time.
