The Year of Yes is a feel good novel. It’s about a 20 yo old woman who in her quest for love decided to date everyone who asked her out! Be it a plumber, an old man, a lesbian, a train conductor or a homeless man. She finally found love in an unexpected twist of fate and is currently happily married to this man. This is a true account by the author, Maria Headley herself.
The story started of blandly but it gets interesting as you read on. I especially like the part about her rendezvous with the train conductor. The conductor brought her to Coney Island on the very last day of summer, not for the rides but for swimming in the cold freezing ocean! Why? You must read the book to find out eh. And how Maria was almost seduced by a lesbian only to find out later that the lesbian wanted her to carry a child for her. Then there’s this sculptor who have a cool freestanding toilet and bathtub. The sculptor also gave her a hickey too many hehehe or a date who gave her raw food for dinner. She had to call her housemate to rescue her! Ah and some intimate stories about her relationship with an actor whom she thought she is Da Man(if you know what I mean) but only to be ditched by him the next morning. She also had a relationship with a guy from her same building, no sex but many hugging and kissing on the bed.
Anyway, I didn’t enjoyed reading the ending where she meet prince charming. The finale starts abruptly and it’s anticlimax. I don’t understand the falling in love part. Indeed love is hard to illustrate eh.
I rate The Year of Yes 2/5.
Go grab this book if you feel like falling in love.

You rate the book 2/5 and suggest that we buy it to fall in love? What happens when you rate a book 5/5?
