I decided to cook something nice for myself and sis for lunch the other day. I choose to cook Steamed Asparagus with Lemon & Anchovy Butter because the dish is very basic and simple. Moreover I have a large chunk of asparagus bought from Cameron the other day.
Dreamcatcher, don’t say I didn’t make good use of The Naked Chef book ya. Too bad I can’t cook something nice for you.
The ingredients and method below are based on the cookbook - The Naked Chef (page 143) plus some individual tweaking. Hope you don’t mind Jamie.
~50g of anchovies
~80g of butter (don’t put lotsa butter)
freshly ground black pepper
juice of 1/4 lemon
600g of asparagus
Note: I didn’t add any dried chili as I’m lazy to search for it in my mom’s larder.

Wash the asparagus thoroughly and rinse well. Chop the asparagus to your preferred size and shape. Then steam the asparagus in a steamer (I used a stainless steel bowl over boiling water). Steam the asparagus until tender.
Wash the anchovies and chop it finely in a food processor. Add 1/4 of a lemon juice, butter and pepper into the chopped anchovies. Problem is my butter is still hard like a rock. I toasted the anchovies, lemon juice, pepper and butter into the asparagus and let the butter melt over the hot boiling water.
And TADAAAA…I get this:

In comparison with the book’s photo…very similiar hor. So how many stars you wanna give me?

I cooked some shell pasta to be eaten together with the dish. The end results? A very yummy feast!!!
for myself. Sis said “Ho Chiak!”. Ohh and I add bits and pieces of Kraft Singles for garnish and flavor. Mom and dad said don’t use butter next time. (so maybe can use olive oil? hmm)

Eh, Kraft singles as garnishing??? I think that’s a big No-No when making any kind of pasta coz its meant for sandwiches/burgers. safer to go with Parmesan cheese or shredded mozarella cheese… ;)

Szer, haha ya I know but then I seldom buys Parmesan/Mozarella…therefore I just use Kraft singles as sub. Hehe
