If you remember in my rat-enter-house-post, I mentioned that I have a piano and music lover Kleio was asking me the other day whether I play piano.
I’m not shy to say that I’m piano illiterate and so are my family members (dad+mom+sis). We’re not music-instrument-lovers.
Even though we’re piano illiterate (to A, B, C notes) at least sis and me know how to play a song or two by following 1, 2, 3. Hmm I don’t know how to explain. Like Happy Birthday song goes something like this 112143 112154 and so on.
So you must be wondering why we bother to buy a piano at all?
It was my sis’ piano but she never come close to even going for a piano lesson. The piano was a gift to her for academic excellent. As time went by and due to busyness, I guess she has lost her interest with the piano. I insisted on selling the piano a few times over the years but she always insist on keeping it. Ok we’ll see by the time she’s 50 what will become of this piano and will she be a pianist by then. I bet you NOT and that’s why I can give her time until she’s fifty.
I know my sis well.
So all these years the piano’s only contribution to our family is to lend her shoulder as a place to decorate our graduation photos.

The story did not end there. A few years later sis coaxed our parents to buy her another music instrument. This time a guitar! She took a few guitar lesson and then stopped. What happen to her guitar? Lying dusty and near dead. Of course I exaggerated the last part la. I did pick up the guitar and learn a few keys. I like strumming it. Nice. But Chester is so scare of the guitar. He runs far far away.
But I stop eventually because sis is overprotecting her guitar like “aiyoo see what’s this? your fingerprint neh!!!”.

when i was in high school and the guitar was like the hottest ever musical instrument, i taught myself how to play the guitar and developed calluses on fingertips from non-stop practising. however, guitar-playing and long fingernails don’t go together and so i gave up the guitar for vanity’s sake. now i can’t play anymore. sigh.

I attended both piano and guitar lessons at once but then I quitted the piano one about 2 months later, to focus on guitar one. Took exams and everything - studied for 2 years up to Grade 4, then quit to focus on SPM. Konon la focus on SPM - I was still playing in a band as lead vocals and guitarist - at school functions and proms. Very fun, back then. Since our house has a piano (although i dropped out, but sis is still learning til today), I have been playing it on my own. I believe that any guitarist will be able to pick up piano fairly easily - although not those professional classical music, but can play songs we’re familiar with from the radio, tv, etc!

Jemima, no need to use guitar. My angry voice is enough to scare the shit out of him. I know I’m evil.

Oic. But it’s pity then to let it go to waste this way. Man, I am itching to get my fingers on one (piano). Thanks for indulging me with this post of yours. Guitar playing is nice too. Too bad Chester abhorred it.

Kleio, ahhh then get one yourself. Maybe you and your boy can take piano lesson together.
