Today we, Malaysian created another milestone. Dr. Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor is the first Malaysian to go into space.
I’m pretty sure he’ll become a Datuk when he comes back home.
I didn’t really give any hoo haa at first about this space thing. But after viewing the live telecast blast off of the Russian Soyuz spacecraft, I’m actually quite proud.
I’ve taken a couple of photos right from my living room TV. Feast on it in case you’ve miss this historic moment and relish it as a proud Malaysian.
3, 2, 1……

Sleeping…don’t kacau la

Zzzzzz….still sleeping (his face is pretty tense man)

Hahaha SMILING. Rise and Shine!

Busy in space. His flight mates: Yuri Malenchenko from Russia and Peggy Whitson from America.

He’ll spend 2 days orbiting the earth before finally docking at ISS (International Space Station; the only man-made mega structure in space). He’ll be carrying out some experiment work at ISS for 8 days before returning to earth on the 21st October 2007.
In between this time, there’ll be live telecast of Soyuz docking at ISS, interview with Dr Sheikh Muszaphar and our PM and deputy PM and landing coverage. Oh btw, he’ll be hosting his first space Raya party at the space station. Muahahaha Talk about Malaysia Boleh!

Hehehee… Ok-la.. Quite “proud” though I still think it wasn’t worth the $$$ spent coz it could have been used elsewhere. Anyway, we were talking about it and figured the one thing that you shouldn’t do when you’re wearing your spacesuit is probably kentut…. sure die coughing in your suit.

He is just spaceflight participant. Excerpt from Wikipedia : “While the Russian Federal Space Agency and NASA both classify Shukor as a spaceflight participant,[4][13][14] he is not a commercial space “tourist”, as he did not pay for the flight; the agreement was made between the Malaysian Space Agency, and the Russian Space Agency”. We might appear as not paid for the flight… but did we buy those fighter planes @ at inflated price so that this guy can go to space? How many times are we going to use those fighter planes anyway? Other than looking proud by having the so-called 1st astronaut and a fleet of cool figther plans to show off… what else can the rakyat get from this? I hope he will prove me wrong by delivering useful test/research he did in space.

At first, I was quite negative toward this thing as I heard of all thingy about how he is going to pray, do fasting la. But later on, I realize that he will actually bring some cancer specimen to experiment in the space station, then I wow for at least some contributions is made.

Datukship and land titles will be waiting here even before he touchdown. And it looks like he got ‘Dollah-Kaki-Tidur’ syndrome, it sure is contagious. zzzzz As for inspirations, you just have to look at home, look at real ppl , everyday ppl doing extraordinary things. 80Mill of our tax money for sending an idiot to space? In old Soviet Russia, he would be so… booked himself a ticket to the Gulags.

I do feel proud as a Malaysian, but this is not really a big leap for Malaysia, unless this launch can inspired the young generation to explore space, and the experiment result is useful to mankind. However, this is just like space tour, as Malaysia pay for him, while not using our own technology, not even single small section. Even Microsoft Chief Software Engineer(I forgot his name) just came back from space visit few months ago…

Giddy tiger, because I took these photos from my tv screen.
Angie Tan, I’m ‘quite’ proud not very proud. The money should be use elsewhere.
Neo, he’s going to carry out experiment on HIV cures and others. I can’t remember already.
Jemima, my dad asked me whether he was holding the Quran book.
Dreamcatcher, I didn’t watch that part. I managed to run to the tv with my camera in hand just in time for the launch.
Woodstock, oklah at least he’s doing some testing there. Still it’s not worth it. What have we achieve by sending someone to space? show we have MONEY. Technology? Mana ada? right?
Daniel, yup more or less like that.
Jam, still you think it’s not worth it right?
Wuching, u sleeping?
Monkey Wong, hehe why so happy?
Mob1900, hahahaha at least give him some credit for carrying out some experiments in ISS. But seriously it’s a waste of our money.
Keeyit, he’ll be so famous and everything.
Vhanded, that’s why we are fondly known as Malaysia Boleh. But betul-betul we boleh ke? Err errr…

I am secretly hoping that he will decline his Datukship. Because all of a sudden having a Datukship is not necessarily an honorable thing anymore. But if he declines, then I will *tabik*!!!!!! Actually we shouldn’t vilify Dr Sheikh… not like it’s his fault. Even if he’s not blasted into space, he has achieved quite alot in his life, in such short time (he’s only 35!). Orthopadeic surgeon la, Part-time model la, wah wah wah. It’s the government that decided to send him to space so the government punya pasal. I don’t really agree with the space program actually. But since it has to be done (due to head-hardedness or stupidity within the ranks, i dunno), might as well enjoy the flight (the rocket-launch). Haha..
