Sugar cookies is one of the must during Christmas time. Do you know you can use sugar cookies as ornaments on your Christmas tree? Yeah! Saw it at one of the epis of Nigella’s Christmas Kitchen.
I used dog bone and star cookie cutters to shape the dough. Then I decorated the sugar cookies with color rice and floral sprinkle on the icing.
A giant sugar cookies bone! This one is for Chester. I know sugar is not good for dogs but I’ll let him have the luxury this one time.

Yummy! Before coating with icing, the cookies’ sweetness is very light. Ideal for dogs too.

Sugar cookies decorated with icing. Just showing off my creativity. Pretty?

For the recipes:
Sugar Cookies (from allrecipes.com)
Ingredients:
1 cup butter
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
Directions:
1. In a large bowl, mix together butter, sugar, eggs and vanilla extract with an electric mixer until light and fluffy. (I just use my hand). Combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Gradually stir in flour mixture into butter mixture until well blended using a sturdy spoon. Chill dough for 2 hours.
2. Preheat oven to 200 degree C. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut into desired shapes using cookie cutters. Place cookies 2 inches apart onto ungreased cookie sheets.
3. Bake for 4-6 minutes in the preheated oven. Remove cookies from pan and cool on wire racks.
Sugar Cookies Icing (from allrecipes.com)
Ingredients:
1 cup icing sugar
2 teaspoons milk
2 teaspoons light corn syrup
1/4 teaspoon almond extract (I skip this)
assorted food coloring
Directions:
1. In a small bowl, stir together icing sugar and milk until smooth. Beat in corn syrup and almond extract until icing is smooth and glossy. If icing is too thick, add more corn syrup.
2. Divide into separate bowls and add food colorings to each desired intensity. Dip cookies or paint them with a brush.
Have a jolly baking time.
