Can you tell me what is this?

The first time I lay my eyes on it were more than a year ago at the Kota Kinabalu Sunday market during my Mount Kinabalu excursion.

Nah…here’s another angle that I took.

Here’s a close-up look.

Basically I know what this is use for (just this weekend haha) but I don’t know what it is made of. Can someone help me to solve this mystery?
