I visited the famous Kuan Yin Temple in Klang on Wesak Day 3 months ago. Guess what? Last Saturday, I visit Kuan Yin Teng again but this time it was night time. As Kuan Yin’s birthday is on Sunday, we decided to go have a ‘look-look’ the night before because we saw quite a handful of people there plus a large tent has been erected for (I guess) opera!
I’ve been to this Kuan Yin Temple to watch Chinese Opera when I was small. But then I really can’t remember anything at all. So when we arrived there and saw that a Chinese Opera show were about to start, I was damn excited. It’s been my dream to watch Chinese Opera in Malaysia. I’ve seen them in Beijing but it’s a different feeling when you can watch it from your own backyard.

This is the original 100+ years old Kuan Yin Temple. It has been given a face lift; new paint coats but the interior is still undergoing construction. This old temple is situated right beside the new one. Lovely ya?

See the long rods they’re holding? Means they are riding on horses. And the flags stuck behind their back means the number of wars they’ve won. Source is from my mom & grandma. Unfortunately I don’t understand a word they’re singing. Too bad lo.

Cecil, Thank You! Ya me can’t believe either they’re from Thailand. Thought they’re from China/Taiwan. Me using kit lens only. I change the ISO to 1000, 1250 and at times 1600. But I think the real reason for these sharp scenes is because the stage is brightly lit (while the background is dark). Luckily no noise.

Thai doing Chinese opera? Amazing ya! I guess the opera was conducted in Teochew dialect, am I right?
Jam, I don’t know how to distinguish Teochew dialect. I think it has something like mandarin/hokkien type of dialect. Wuahahaha funny me.
