Geelong Self-Drive Day 5: Geelong Riverview Tourist Park & Waterfront

First thing we did once we reached Geelong is to check-in at Geelong Riverview Tourist Park, our accommodation for the night.

Entrance to Geelong Riverview Tourist Park (located by the Barwon River).

At first I wanted to look for cottage accommodation but the idea of living in a holiday cabin is more exciting (don’t you think so?). We only see this kind of accommodation in TV. Now it’s time to experience it ourself.

Our holiday cabin that comes with a car park! AUD75.00/night is not bad. This cabin can actually accommodate up to 6 person.

Let’s take a tour inside…

This is a self-contained kitchen with oven, fridge, stove, microwave…

Also come with cutlery, cups, plates, kettle, toaster, pan… everything you need is here.

Sofa and dining area. The air-conditioning/heating system is located at the wall behind the sofa.
At night this cabin was quite cold. I basically hanged out at the sofa area. Haha

It has 2 rooms and 1 toilet/shower.

Bunk beds that can sleep 4.

Main bedroom which we slept in. There’s 2 electric bed warmers at each side of the bed that kept us warm at night. First time using this kind of bed warmer stuff. Cozy!

Toilet and shower… very clean. πŸ™‚

We took a little tour around the tourist park. These are more ‘high class’ cabins.

After settling down and rest we went out at 5.10pm to Geelong Waterfront.

On our way to Geelong Waterfront. It was straightforward. All we need to do is drive straight…

However… we were stopped by the traffic lights countless of time. Basically every blocks we went through we had to wait for the traffic lights. Driving this stretch of road took us 5 minutes. Eeekkk! Going back time was the same too. Hahaha

Ahh finally we’re nearing the waterfront. Can you see the sea?
The fins like structure is called North (middle of picture).

Baywalk Bollards. These sculptured bollards can be seen around Geelong waterfront. Cute ya?

Cunningham Pier.

The Pier Geelong. It wasn’t open when we were there.
We did walked in there seeing lots of car parked there… but no idea where they went. Haha

Lovely!

Cunningham Pier.
Notice the rail line? It was used to transport coal and wool… in the early 20s to 50s.

This is Corio Bay where the Royal Geelong Yacht Club, marina and sailing shops are located.

So many rich people here. Haha

Wish I’ll be able to ride on one one day.

After that we turned our attention to dinner.

On our way to get our dinner…

This is old Geelong Post Office. Lovely building ya.

We head to Woolworths at Pakington Street with GPS aid.

Bought salad (AUD2.97) and juice (AUD3.98), macadamia 500g (AUD11.98) and then tapau-ed fish and chips at Pakington Fish outlet (AUD7.50). Then we head back to our cabin to relax and enjoy our dinner.

Actually the main reason we stayed at Geelong is because we wanted to visit a vineyard during the day but it was not meant to be. We reached Geelong quite late and we were spent. Really a huge relief that nothing happened during our drive to Great Ocean Road and back. With this… we were kinda like okay no more gambling on the car. Hahaha

That night I boiled and drank the water from this holiday cabin. Guess what? Something bad happened!

To be continued…

An Aussie expat at work talked about fishing, boating and the nature walking paths in Geelong. Also visiting ship wrecks, if I remember right. I guess this place is more for outdoorsy kinda ppl, maybe.

Hi we plan to stay Geelong tourist park too as a Base after ballarat and going to lorne. do you think the water there is not clean? do you advise to get mineral water?

    • Reply Che-Cheh April 6, 2016 at 2:37 pm

Hi Chee Lan, I suspected the water since I was the only one drinking it. To be on the safe side, better get a bottle of mineral water.
