Great Ocean Road Self-Drive Day 5: Loch Ard Gorge

After biding goodbye to the lovely Port Campbell town we drove to Port Campbell National Park.

Here are some of the awesome views along Great Ocean Road.

I stopped the car in the middle of the road and took this picture. The road was practically ours!


View like this doesn’t come often. That’s why the car was crawling like a snail… so that we can enjoy the magnificent views!

On the road we go… lalalalalala

11 minutes later we reached Loch Ard Gorge.

This is Loch Ard Gorge.
Remember the large anchor photo in my previous post? Yeah it belongs to Loch Ard but that’s not the main anchor. It’s just one of the 4 tiny ones. Can you imagined how big the main anchor would be?

This place is named Loch Ard Gorge after the clipper Loch Ard that shipwrecked here in 1878. The actual wreck site is at Muttonbird Island; the sow which is not far from where this picture is taken.

Muttonbird Island is located behind the cliff on the right of this picture. Blocked… cannot see. Hehe

There’s a wooden stairs which will bring us to the beach.

My sis is checking out the caves there. Nothing to see according to her. I didn’t follow her there as the area is quite muddy.

I’m of course the one wearing Crocs. This Crocs have accompanied me to so many places. I’ll write a post about it soon.

Nature’s art work. As beautiful as Twelve Apostles.

On top of this cliff is where we came from. Look at the patterns… carved by the sea and wind.

This is the beach at Loch Ard Gorge.

This dead wood looks like Mr. Paul, the gone-for-good octopus. Hehehe 😛

Now this is interesting. How on earth did the footsteps prints jut outward instead of pressing into the beach sands?

I was as baffled as you until just before I publish this post online… I asked my sis.
I’ll tell you at the end of this post.

Do you know why?

Look at the waves! The tide is coming in. The time was 10am.
During high tide, we won’t be able to walk on the beach. Everything will be under water.
That’s why we left after that. The path going up the steps will be blocked by water.

And we touched the sea water. Icy cold man!

Now can you see it? Hahaha Looks like I rotated the picture wrongly while editing the photos. Still it looks cool doesn’t it? Now go back to the first photo and try to imagine ’em the normal footprints on sand.
