Raya Eve Escapade to Cameron Highlands

On the eve of Hari Raya, I went to Cameron Highlands with my dear family. As we’ve been to Cameron Highlands once before, we decided to give our 2nd visit a short day tour only. Thank God we didn’t ran into any traffic congestion or speed trap along the NSE. Dad drove all way to and fro and only letting me drive at 1 short stretch of NSE. Awww.

We stopped at Bidor for a morning break. Since dad, who hails from Bidor have forgotten the location of a fame dim sum restaurant, we simply settle for an authentic Wan Tan Mee at Mei Loke ‘Something’ Restaurant. It is one of the best Wan Tan Mee that I’ve eaten in recent years. Slurrp! 5 thumbs up.

Somewhere along the NSE, there were mist covering the entire area of the road. Really wonderful. We used the Tapah route to Cameron Highlands which is winding, curvy and narrow but nearer in comparison with the new Simpang Pulai route which is less curvy and wider but further away. Along the 2-ways narrow road, we saw aborigines selling bottles honey, petai, wild gingers and crafts.

It took us about 3 1/2 hours later to reach Cameron Highlands. We stopped at Ringlet for nature call and continued our way to Brinchang without stopping at Tanah Rata. We were half way to the top of Sam Poh Buddhist Temple but had to U-turn back as the jam there led us nowhere to go. A @#&$! CRV nearly ram into my car.

We visited a nursery at Brinchang to purchase some cute cactus. We also stopped at the vegetable market (beside Honey Bee Farm) for some vegies, fruits and flowers. Mom bought asparagus, cabbages, lettuces, honey sweet potatoes, carrots, sweetcorns, avocados, cikus, strawberries and many more. And we girls bought 1 dozen of roses at RM10 and 6 stalks of sunflowers at RM10 too. The florist gave us 1 1/2 dozen roses for FREE and 1 extra stalk of sunflower. She gave us that extra flowers so that we can make dried flowers out of it. But nah we’ve passed the dried flowers adoration days. And again I’m gonna tell myself to never ever buy any flowers from Cameron. The flowers couldn’t last. Just after a day, almost all of it begins to die. Our last stop was at the Honey Bee Farm where dad bought 3kg of honey. Yeah our whole family is a great fans of honey.

There were light jams at every famous nurseries, farms, stalls at Cameron Highlands. You thought you’ll get fresh air? Sure you get some fresh air but also the occasional smell of ekzos pipe!

Best sweetcorn in the whole WIDE world. It is so sweet that you don’t even have to add butter and/or salt to improve the flavor. But the BEST ever sweetcorn that I’ve tasted is located at the Parit Waterfalls area in Tanah Rata. It was 1999 and until today that particular sweetcorn taste still lingers on my taste buds.

After 4 hours of PURE shopping at Cameron Highlands, we began our journey home through the Simpang Pulai route this time. Just testing out this new road. Sure the road is wider and less steep but still it is winding. We encountered fog and mist along the way.

Watch the video clip below. You can see the visibility is down to about 50m only.

We reached home nearly 4 1/2 hours later. Proof that Simpang Pulai route is further. And we spent more time travelling (~8hrs) than visiting (~4hrs). What a joke that is. Nevertheless it was a good getaway.

Wah, your dad superman ah? I love Cameron Highlands but hate the drive up. The other day, we use the Simpang Pulai way up (from Penang nearer mah) but used the Tapah way to go down (heading to KL). I don’t mind the extra hours of Simpang Pulai, really. Less winding = less people barfing.

The Bidor restaurant, could it be the famous Pun Chun Restaurant? Check out a post I did last time.
