Stories about my angel golden retriever, Chester.
The fun, the agony and the best of the time we have!
Here are some bits & pieces about my dear angel Chester:
Chester was a cheeky bum and a couch potato. Treasure hunt and hide and seek were 2 of his favorite games. He used to love football too and taunted passerby especially those on 2 wheelers (learned from Zebra) but had grown out of it as the years pass. He was a shy, gentle and timid guy at heart. He learned very quickly and understood over 50 commands. Food was his life!
His favorite pastimes were sleeping, nibbling at his teddy or blanket, walking with his two owners and visiting his girlfriends (both human and furry ones). He loved tummy and back rub, water (=bath + ice) and treats. His nicknames were che-cheh, che, chez, keke keke, bear bear, fei chu yoke (fatty pork), siu yoke (roasted pig), oppa (brother/오빠), ajeoshi (uncle/아저씨), eongdong-i (butt/엉덩이) and mister. He was some sort of a multilingual dog. He understood some English, Hokkien and Korean. Funny I never spoke to him Cantonese. His intelligence sometimes surprises me until the day he passed. He learned commands REAL fast and can catch what you were doing even before the action begins. He was really special and I loved him to bits. Muaks XOX
Remember Chester’s new golden friend ? He’s Chester’s plush toy golden retriever. Well, I found the two of them mimicking one another in many occasions. They are such good friends.
Special note: I swear I didn’t plan/stage Dalbong like that. It was all Chester himself. Okay maybe only photo no. 2. 😛
Recently I stumbled upon this origami butterfly page. I make one and it was super easy.
Here’s Chester with my first origami butterfly.
This afternoon I gave Chester a game of treasure hunt to play while I work in my room. Not long after, I went to check on him and I found plenty of blood on the TV room floor. Oh noooo…
I searched his hands and feet for injury and found that his right front dewclaw is trickling with blood. His dewclaw nail were nowhere to be found. Thankfully the blood did stop after awhile. He didn’t whine at all but keep refusing me when I want to check his wound.
This is a perfectly fine dewclaw.
May I present you Chester’s new friend, a plush toy golden retriever named Dalbong 달봉. I initially named him Arthur but my sis said yuck so we agreed on Dalbong. Like his best friend ANAK the teddy bear, Chester loves biting on it. Uhmm he even humps Dalbong! Hahaha Sometimes he rest his head on Dalbong and sometimes he sleeps together with Dalbong.
Heyall, meet Dalbong!
Few years back, I came up with the treasure hunt game with Chester in mind. Its main purpose is to make my golden move around more AND also gain and lose weight at the same time (haha). If not for this game, Chester would spend his time just lying down in the house. The idea is to let him find the treats I hide all over the house. Sound simple and fun right? He gets to move his muscle, make use of his super nose scent and eat at the same time (which is his greatest joy).
First, I’ll hide the treats at places like in between the sofa, on the chair, behind his water bowl, under his blanket or soft toy and so on.
Last week Chester went to the vet to have his annual vaccine jab. Due to the incompetence of the vet which we usually visited (I can still hear the doctor’s voice telling me: I don’t want to stress myself. I’ll refer you to another doctor), this time we visited a new clinic at Bukit Tinggi. It’s a bit further from our home about 15 mins away.
To the vet… vroom vroom!
