Chester

Hematoma??? Not Again!!!

I bath Mr. Chester on Friday and thought he reacted funnily (tilting one side of his head) at one time. At night I found a hematoma (swelling) on his old hematoma ear. SHIT SHIT SHIT. His ear is not infected with fungal/mites. It’s clean. So I’m not sure why he has hematoma again on that ear (maybe bath water was trapped in his ear but he didn’t really shake his head many times). It’s plus minus a couple of days from his 1 year old hematoma surgery anniversary. Aiyarr…

I brought him to the vet (new one) on Monday and the vet prescribed antibiotics for him. She said it’s small enough so surgery is not needed (phewww). But we will see how it’s going to be 10 days later.

The reddish part… that’s where the blood swells inside. That’s the hematoma.

It didn’t spread to the top (in this pict) because of the suture from his ‘old hematoma’ surgery. But it can swell to the left and right. That’s where we want to monitor.

Also Chester has a small nodule at the side of his left hind leg. ‘Nana’ were coming out so I had the vet take a look. I notice this nodule for a long time now… few years and it’s finally ‘ripe’ (therefore got nana). She said it’s fungal nodule. Normal for golden retriever. We had his leg taken care of and all is good.

Had a chat with the vet regarding his malassezia. She told me it’s heredity. So nothing can be done about it. But we can prevent it by drying the dog thoroughly after bath because yeast thrives in wet conditions. Something which I have failed to do because a. I’m lazy b. Chester has so much fur!!!

Chester weights 28.2kg on 21st September 2009. He was 30kg on January 2009. The vet said this is good as he’s going on his senior year (next year), not being overweight is the utmost important. And Chester had a good time in this clinic. He was a bit scared on the surgery table but the vet soothed him by calling his name, patting him and asking me to pat him continuously. Now this is what I called a good doctor. The clinic doesn’t smell like a clinic at all. No medicine smell. No foul smell. The vet even sanitized the surgery table before Chester came on it. She was administrating 2 cats before that.

Total damage this time RM145 (consultation, procedure, antibiotics, Surolan ear drops otitis/dermatitis), Malaseb shampoo)

Today 22nd September 2009, 11.50pm:
On his malassezia infection, I can see some improvement. So happy.

Still the same for his hematoma.

This is the fungal nodule’s condition today. It’s so red. I think it might have some infection. Thinking of bringing him to the vet again tomorrow.

I applied some aloe vera gel and close it with gauze swab and plasters. Few hours later the gauze swab and plasters were nowhere to be found. He must have swallow it. Aiyar yar. I dunno what to do with this dog. That one also want to eat.

Btw the vet said to me “Your dog so many problem one?!”. Guess I’m not a good owner lo.

Dear All, Thank you for your well wishes. I’m monitoring him very strictly. The nodule thingy is less reddish this evening.

whenever our house dog is injured right, we will put some oil on him, it is called.. ι»‘ι£Žζ²Ή in chinese, in eng i am not sure what is it called. but it looks like soysauce and smells one kind, i even used it when i first pierced my ear and no pus at all, wound usually can heal quite fast with tht ‘black wind oil’.
