Chester Injured His Dewclaw

This afternoon I gave Chester a game of treasure hunt to play while I work in my room. Not long after, I went to check on him and I found plenty of blood on the TV room floor. Oh noooo…

I searched his hands and feet for injury and found that his right front dewclaw is trickling with blood. His dewclaw nail were nowhere to be found. Thankfully the blood did stop after awhile. He didn’t whine at all but keep refusing me when I want to check his wound.

This is a perfectly fine dewclaw.

The injured dewclaw. Ouch ouch… only some flesh left.

I continued on my work until I finished and then I swept the floor (dirty ma). Then I found this near our bathroom (which is far from the TV room):

Ohmygod!!! I initially thought it was just a short nail but it turns out to be a long one. Ohh poor Chester.

So I quickly clean his wound with iodine and place a gauze over at the wounded dewclaw and seal with surgical tape.

My brave Chester is now resting while wearing the Elizabethan collar. He doesn’t limp or anything. Only when I want to change the dressing did he whine a bit.

I didn’t bring him to see doc. Shall I? Hmm…

Update: I brought Chester to the vet on 15th April at the same time I wanted to check his urine to see if protein is still there. Doc said there’s pus forming already and told me to change his bandage and apply cream every day until the area dry up. Chester is also given some antibiotic and another medicine which I forgot what it’s for. Let’s hope it heals fast.

As for the protein in urine, it’s still there. Gonna bring him to another vet next month. I just don’t trust this Bukit Tinggi vet since she looked scare at the sight of my dog barking. Definitely not an animal lover. Oh besides that she charge quite handsomely for the diagnosis and medicine.

Don’t have to bring him to vet…I think he chewed/licked on it that’s why it felled off.

Hi Dawn, Since today I wanted the vet to check his urine (to see if protein is present), I also asked her to see the dewclaw. She said there’s pus already. Chester was bandaged up nicely and given some antibiotic.

Hi Jason, maybe she is in a new environment, that’s why she is shy and have low self esteem. Play with her and bond with her more.
