Retrieving With Chester… Is More Like Wrestling!

Whenever I’m too busy for Chester and his evening walk, I’ll make sure I play with him at night. Funny thing is no one in my house ever bring Chester out for walk!!! Accompany me yes but bring Chester one to one… elek (No). No matter how hard I beg and swear or act pity-ly … no one wants to bring him out except me. How come ar?

There are a few games that we love to play indoor at night. One of them that comes naturally for a golden retriever is retrieving.

Being a ‘wai sek’ (greedy) dog, I must have treat in my hand mostly or he’ll refuse to play with me. Sure he’ll catch say a ball but then he won’t bring back the ball to me.

Sometimes when I’m way out of my cool I’ll scold him ‘Cilaka dog!’ (damn dog)
And he will be showing me his cunning smile at that!

Right now his favorite retrieving toy is a ball (soft toy) that my sis bought from Ikea. RM2.90 only… cheap le. I’ll buy some more of this ball when I go to Ikea’s sale. Hehe

This is what he always do when he doesn’t want to return the ball to me.

He’s teasing me. He wants me to take it from him. He’s making himself ‘the boss’ / the alpha between the two of us.

Sometimes I try to wrestle the ball out of him… like in this picture. Sometimes I use my hand. Because I’m holding the camera (on a slanted tripod) I use my leg. πŸ˜›

Of course I always win. I have ways to make him let go of the ball.

Sure food is one of it. Blowing his nose is another. Haha

Sometimes we’re so into the game that he’ll start growling. So funny!

p/s: It’s super difficult to take picture of my dog because he’s always moving.

Your family thinks walking Chester e is your responsibility, ma. Chester reminds me of Ranger. He does not drop after he fetches. He actually wants us to get it from him which he so loves it! Thank goodness the two C’s drop right away after retrieving.

i use the two ball method to make bobby fetch and drop the tennis ball. once he catches one ball, i will immediately command him to drop while i start bouncing the other ball. sure he will drop because suddenly the ball in my hand is so much more attractive.

Your dog is so cute! Why no one want to bring him out for a walk?

Molly, think carefully before getting a dog because the dog will be you and your husband responsibility. Get to know the dog temperament before adopting one. See also whether you want a family loving dog or a guard dog or etc. Oh and read articles online about adopting dog, how to make them feel comfortable, what to feed them, etc.

Benghui, hi  Thank you. Oopi is very cute too.

Dawn and Hedo, but my dog siao-siao. Sometimes he will retrieve and give me back and sometimes don’t. :silly:

    Neo, of course. kekeke

Foongpc, maybe my family think walking dog is troublesome. It is JOYFUL in fact. πŸ™‚

I think it is always difficult to take pictures of moving animals, especially the one as active and energetic as Chester. Next time, snap the picture while he is sleeping.

    Grace, hi haha thanks.

Amber-Mae, fun ya. With tennis ball is even great.

Jam, oh Chester is a light sleeper. You walk near him and he’ll wake up.
