The Day I Got Screwed

I will always remember X day in the month of September 2012 for the rest of my life for it’s the day I got fcuked by a friend of over 2 decades!!! Not physically mind you, but mentally.

Here’s my story…

Ring… ring… I picked up the phone.

It was X calling who wanted to invite me to a business seminar exclusively for partners only. When I asked her what kind of business she said “It’s hard to talk in the phone”. I thought since I’ve miss some of our recent gatherings I’ll give it a go to meet her besides I’m interested to see what it’s about as it sounded interesting. No? I think you would too.

But then I pressed her for the nature of the business again and she again said the same thing “Difficult to explain in the phone” but finally she said it’s something like franchising. I was like huh??? Sounds fishy but okay decide to go for it.

After speaking to her I kept wondering what kind of business might that be. My first intuition is direct-selling but of course I hope for the best. Note to self = learn to trust your intuition more.

The DAY. I got my answer about 1/2 hour after sticking my butt to the chair. AMWAY!!! Immediately my heart raged. WTF! WTF! WTF! Although I’ve come prepared knowing it might be direct-selling still when the reality really hits you… speechless man! I’ve never felt so betrayed in my life!!!

I don’t mind spending an hour or two listening to the BWW talk (Britt World Wide; associated with Amway) but I really hated the way I was invited. I would prefer if the invitee tell me straight forward it’s direct-selling or multi-level marketing or a seminar associated with Amway. That’s not difficult mah.

From what I learn at the seminar they associate Amway with passive income and financial freedom. I disagree. You need to buy/sell and you need to hire members. And when the downline leaves, you need to hire more. That’s direct-selling or MLM in my book.

So that’s the story how I got fcuked (in Cantonese: pei yan wan pan). I was so horribly mad that I was unable to sleep that night. And then I decided to draft this post at 5 in the morning and post it online later (which you’re reading now with lots of edits here and there hahaha).

Yes I was able to sleep after that. LOL

I’m not anti-MLM or anything just that the method use to approach people is very wrong. And for that the trust is no longer there.

Some people are so snake-y, beating around the bush. I don’t blame you for going coz I would be interested to find out more since it was so “hard to explain it over the phone”. *rolling eyeballs*

Oh! So THIS was what you were so upset about that day! Haha!! Well, I have done Amway before and yes, my uplines taught me this method of inviting people too. So don’t be too angry with your friend cos she may just be following the way she was trained.

Anyway, Amway is so widely known it is actually difficult to invite others to listen to the opportunity when you mention it is Amway. That’s why they need to use this method of inviting people. But in my personal opinion, I think it is better to tell people directly that it is Amway or at least a direct selling business. In this way, you save time avoiding people who are not interested and more effective in getting serious people into the business.

Ya ya this is the one. Grrrr…
I googled about BWW and Amway after this experience and true enough they are taught like this even in US. I don’t blame my friend totally but seeing that we’ve known each other for so long, she should at least be frank with me lo. Like I said in the post, I disagree with this kind of method of inviting people. Even if I’m interested in their product, I will totally not use it because the sincerity is not there. If Tupperware uses this kind of approach eh, don’t think I’ll be using their product.

And yes I agree with you about save time avoiding people who are not interested. Tsk I can use that time to watch more K. dramas. Hahaha

i was with amway before and i was taught this way too. i switched to cosway because is hard to earn reward with amway when rewards don’t accumulate. here in cosway, i get to enjoy redemption from time to time and i won’t force people to join me because i buy because i need to use. i was tricked once by the same method. recently my brother tried to lure me to some health direct selling that he didn’t want to tell me, not until i asked my mom. if you have a business to introduce, i would really say, tell me beforehand rather than using such method to invite.

Ya that’s the key, we buy because we want to use it, of good quality, rewarding and so on and so forth. Just don’t use that kinda method to lure people to join.

Ahh… now I know the meaning behind your angry tweet that day haha. I understand how you feel, because I kena the same thing too. Supposedly an old friend want to ‘catch up’ and instead bug me about joining Amway the whole night. Needless to say, sad to lose one friend.

Agree with you about the trust. If they will be honest about the objective of the meeting, then at least we will go with open mind. Otherwise will feel tricked and will reject their offer no matter how good it is.

Ya haha. Too bad you have to lose a friend. The last paragraph… yup yup so true ya.

hi im familiar in the process of Amway so called business opportunity and i find it very interesting.. yeah its MLM but the beef of the business lies on how you will build a network. Its best if you could attend their business preview seminar because sometimes referrer dont give justice in highlighting the so called opportunity that Amway and Network21 system.. take note that Amway is the marketing arm and Network21 is the academic and the one who handles people in putting/building a network ..

although its good to be true im not pursuing it now due to my kind of work…

    hehehheh

Hi Ruby, Unfortunately my referrer refuse to give out anything except beating around the bushes. MLM is okay but it’s not for everyone. You need to have good networking skill.

I am anti MLM and direct selling! It’s not that I don’t believe somebody have made great money from that, but it is just not my cup of rice bowl.

It’s a difficult road in my opinion and not everyone who join MLM/direct-selling will make it big.
