2013 Korean Dramas: Good, Not Bad & Overrated

Wow we’re coming to the end of 2013. Last year I watched 19 Korean dramas but this year I’ve only had 15 not including 3 dramas which I dropped very early and half way.

In summary, I find this year’s Korean dramas to be a bit dull for my taste. They’re only good and average. Where’s the best? Maybe my taste has gone up or I chooses the wrong dramas to watch? Who knows? Anyway here are my rants on the good, not bad and overrated dramas based on my personal views.

Only one notable drama that managed to get me excited from start to finish. It was a pleasure to watch.

1. 주군의 태양 The Master’s Sun

The Master's Sun
Come to think of it, I’m afraid of ghost and yet I find this drama refreshing and cute. The writers were the one who wrote the Big flop. I love the shelter-So Ji Sub and million dollar radar-Gong Hyo Jin. Best OTP this year.

Not Bad
There are plenty of not bad dramas this year. If I were to list them all out you sure are going to knock me down out of boredom. So I choose a few which I liked better.

1. 파스타 Pasta

Love Gong Hyo Jin. Love pasta. Love kitchen. There’s just something about Lee Seon Gyun.

2. 아이리스 2 Iris 2

Iris 2
I know many condemned this drama but I love it. Maybe one reason is because I never watched Iris and so I don’t have to compare with its first installment. Iris 2 was beautifully shot, action-packed and refreshing.

More not bad dramas
Some other worth-watching dramas…
1. 미안하다, 사랑한다 Sorry, I Love You (2004) – Tragic. The ending surprises me!
2. I Need Romance 2 (2012) – Plenty of making out. Relationship builder?
3. 상어 Shark – Just consider this drama without a male lead and you’re good.
4. 학교 School 2013 – Bromance!
5. 직장의 신 The Queen Of Office – Contract vs permanent employees. Never knew such dilemma existed in Korea.
6. Mirae’s Choice – I quite like it actually. Like both Yoon Eun Hye and Lee Dong Gun. (still watching)
7. Waiting for Love – Light-hearted and fun.

Only one OVERLY overrated drama (if such word exist) this year and it’s non-other than Heirs

1. 왕관을 쓰려는자, 그무게를 견뎌라-상속자들 The Heirs

The Heirs

I may be a Lee Min Ho fan but I don’t watch all of his dramas. Well I tried and they sucks sometime. The Heirs is the MOST overrated drama of all time. It’s has nothing, no foundation and only a lifeless shell. I think I dropped this drama at episode 6. Couldn’t take it no more. Main reason was because Mr Lee doesn’t look like a kid-student hence the realism of this drama is shattered. Second… the story up to episode 6 was so typical.

Two other dramas which I dropped were Good Doctor and Padam Padam The Sound of His and Her Heartbeats. For Good Doctor I dropped it nearing the end. Couldn’t take Joo Won’s acting any longer. For Padam Padam, it started to get boring plus I’m a little sick of Han Ji Min.

My only wish for next year? More interesting Korean dramas please.

Hi Keeyit, yeah those are some of the reason but also because the storylines are entertaining.
