You Are My Destiny (Korean Drama)

I’m currently hot-trailing a Korean drama called You Are My Destiny. No, it’s nothing like the typical K-drama where you get to see she ‘crying’, he ‘crying’ every few minutes. This is well, a very exceptional drama about the struggle of an orphan girl, finding love and nemesis along the way.

I love this drama. The lead actress Im Yoon Ah (Yoona) who played Jang Sae Byeok is brilliant and cute. Would you believe me if I told you she’s just 18? And she’s a member of K-Pop Girl’s Generation (a very successful k-pop group in Korea).

Let’s talk about this drama a little bit.

You see the 3 people below? To summarize their complex relationship… well this hunky guy (though not very good in acting but is hunky enough to drool over) like this girl in the middle. But the other girl on the right like this hunky guy. The girl in the middle couldn’t return his love because of another complex relationship! That’s the simple summary!!! Wuahaha.

From left to right (characters name): Kang Ho Se, Jang Sae Byeok & Kim Soo Bin

Kim Soo Bin is the nemesis. For me Gong Hyun Joo (as Kim Soo Bin) performance is top-notch. She may be evil, bitchy and green-eyed (in this character) but she is really beautiful. You can’t really hate her, you know?

This drama started its broadcast in KBS on 5th May 2008. It’s currently running on its 121st episode(today) in KBS1, garnering no.1 rating in Seoul almost everyday. The last episode of You Are My Destiny will be aired in January 2009. Hehe so imagine how many episodes in total. I guess 200 episodes?? According to DramaWiki, total epis is 150. Okay latest in Korea, episode 160th. It’s official!!! You Are My Destiny has 178 episodes in total. Enjoy while it last ya.

But Na-yeong’s parents who even have no idea that their daughter was killed by traffic accident are shocked to fall in a faint. Confession: I’m not a fan of Korean drama. The only Korean drama I’ve ever liked is Hotelier, and that was because Bae Yong Jun was SO charming! But after that, even him couldn’t tempt me into watching them. 😀

  • Reply Che-Cheh October 24, 2008 at 3:04 pm

Xin, well this one has less :crying: but more

Monkey Wong, if you have time la but I guess you don’t. Spend more time with your girl better eh.

    Goolooloo, you’re welcome.

MisSmall. actually I’ve never watch Hotelier before. hehe

I luv dis drama!! cant wait till d end of dis, i heard dat saebyouk is actually the real daughter of the family that adopted her, is dat true??

  • Reply Che-Cheh October 29, 2008 at 9:50 pm

AtsumiSC, actually I don’t want this drama to end. Haha I didn’t know about that but I’d figured surely Saebyeok has something to do with Kim family when she got hold of her baby’s shoe. Plus they’ve mentioned that they lost a baby right? And if it’s true (that she is actually their daughter)… that’s even more wonderful ya. It’s like destiny as in Nayeong brought her sister back to their family.

:crying: I always hate when Korean Dramas come to an end. How come there are only 125 episodes in You Are My Destiny?

  • Reply Che-Cheh November 4, 2008 at 4:51 pm

David, me too. The drama has way over 125 epis. You must have misread it somewhere.

Some of you people seem to be on dope when responding to this site. Possibly your brains have been fried by dope. The rest of you seem normal. The normal ones can check the following site koreandrama.org/?p=593 . I referenced your site on theirs. A beneficial reciprocation.

Che-cheh, I hope your right about the total episodes of 200+.
I’m anxious to see how the writers explain how SaeByruks adopted family lost her as a child and didn’t investigate her disappearance with the local police who surely would have directed them to the orphanage.

  • Reply Che-Cheh November 8, 2008 at 10:58 am

Smartalec44, If you read correctly I’m saying “I guess 200+ epis”. I didn’t say it is 200+ epis. As for Saebyeok and her adopted parents… I’m also guessing only. I may be wrong for both okay.

Is Che-Cheh a first and middle name or first and last name. Do you know anything about Korean everyday life. For instance, are there any Korean or Asian western style country music bands or groups? Does anybody actually have traditional furniture any longer? Will anyone pull a Ronald Reagen and tear down the 38th parallel border and perform a coup on the north Korean communist government?

im puertorican and i love this korean drama,I LOVE HOSAE, I WANT TO MARRIED HIM. HIS HOT.

  • Reply smartalec44 November 27, 2008 at 5:01 am

Che-Cheh! Where have you been? Since last writing I found out that in Korean the last name appears first followed by the first or middle names. As a westerner I don’t have a phonetic basis for understanding Korean words. However when SaeByeok was adopted by her new family her last name was changed from Jang to Kim.

OMG ok I have never watched an Asian drama at all. I was up really late one night and this was on. WOW!!!! I was blown away! This drama is great. I find myself staying up late at night to watch it here in Philadelphia!!

  • Reply Che-Cheh December 29, 2008 at 9:23 pm

lilgoddess , Hi…. oh you’re hooked too eh? It’s good ya? :peace:

  • Reply lilgoddess December 30, 2008 at 12:32 am

Oh yes I’m hooked! It only comes on very late at night here and on a public access channel, but it’s worth staying up for. The English subs help out a lot but the names still confuse me a little bit. I have to pay very close attention to what is going on and read carefully so I don’t get lost. I have actually asked my grandmother’s neighbor (who came to America from Korea in the 1960’s)to teach me a little about Korean culture just because of this drama!!

  • Reply Che-Cheh December 30, 2008 at 12:45 am

lilgoddess, oh yeah I read the English sub titles too. Along the way I learned a few Korean words such as I love you hehehe. What’s the episode number that is currently showing in US?

  • Reply lilgoddess December 31, 2008 at 11:52 am

I’m really not sure because I just started watching. She just got declined the job at the firm because of what happened in school I believe. I’ve only watched a few episodes so I’m trying to piece together what’s going on. Maybe you will be able to better fill me in. Where are you located?

  • Reply Che-Cheh December 31, 2008 at 8:40 pm

Lilgoddess, I’m not sure about the school part… She got offered for the job at Lohas because of a design contest. Is that it? I’m from Malaysia. Over here… the episodes run to over 100+ already. 🙂 Happy New Year 2009.

  • Reply lilgoddess December 31, 2008 at 11:26 pm

Yes she was denied a job but then a CEO I think came back to her and said he wanted to see her designs. Yu Ri went to Tae Poong’s house to live because her mother kicked her out over the pictures. That is the episode that was on last night, so I’m not really sure how far along I am in the drama but it’s getting good. Happy and safe New Year to you as well 😀

  • Reply Che-Cheh January 1, 2009 at 12:06 pm

Lilgoddess, Hmmm I think I’m ahead of about 50 epis. 😀 I better not divulge anything. 🙂

  • Reply lilgoddess January 2, 2009 at 11:23 am

LOL well no please don’t because I found an excellent website over here that has all of the episodes!! So I started from the beginning and I’m on episode 5 now 😀

  • Reply Che-Cheh January 2, 2009 at 11:28 am

lilgoddess, oh yeah I watched from epi 1 as well when I found out how good this drama is.
