Hong Kong Day 4 & 5: Crossing Victoria Harbor, Happy Valley Racecourse & Goodbye

Hong Kong Day 1: HKIA, First Airbnb & Duk Ling
Hong Kong Day 2: Victoria Peak Garden, Shopping & Sai Ying Pun
Hong Kong Day 3: Prizemart, Liu Ma Kee, Shanghai Street & Best Mart 360

Beware: a very long post!

Woke up at 7am+ on day 4. After dilly-dally, we went out at 10am+ for brunch at a dai pai dong in Tai Hang, Hong Kong Island.

To get to Tai Hang, we need to cross Victoria Harbor either by MTR or ferry (of course you can cross by car, bus or taxi too). Taking the MTR will save time. However we prefer taking the Star Ferry because it’s always an exceptional experience. I’ve rode the ferry before in 2011 that was going to Central. This time, we’re going to Wan Chai area via the Wan Chai ferry route.

Hong Kong Day 3: Prizemart, Liu Ma Kee, Shanghai Street & Best Mart 360

My 2018 Hong Kong travelogue so far:
Hong Kong Day 1: HKIA, First Airbnb & Duk Ling
Hong Kong Day 2: Victoria Peak Garden, Shopping & Sai Ying Pun

Woke up at 7am+ and went out around 9.30am on day 3. We had our breakfast at Australia Dairy Company. I wanted to try the food here for the longest time. Although it is mission accomplished in this visit, I most probably won’t be returning. Click the link to read about it. Very fascinating I tell ya.

After breakfast, we went to the nearby Prizemart. We discovered Prizemart while queening for Kam’s Roast Duck the previous day and decided to drop by one of the nearby branches the next day. So here we are. I went nuts with chocolate because it was so cheap.

Taipei Day 4: Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall, Nanmen Market & Food Shopping

My Taiwan 2015 travelouge so far:
1. Taipei Day 1: AirAsia, Star Hostel & Ningxia Road Night Market
2. Jiufen Day 2: Jiufen Old Street
3. Beitou + Taipei Day 3: Hot Spring & Shilin Night Market

Breakfast At Star Cafe @ Star Hostel, Taipei
Started day 4 with breakfast at Star Hostel. This is my least favorite breakfast of all. It was rather bland. Bread with thin layer of egg salad and top with cucumber slices with fruits on the side (apple, pineapple and orange). Milk tea to brush all that down.

London Day 2: Covent Garden, British Museum, British Library & Phantom Of The Opera Musical

Continuation from London Day 1: Flying With MAS, Heathrow Connect & Piccadilly Circus

Day 2 is the day we get to experience the unpredictable British weather. Repeated heavy and light rain, windy and sunny weather all in the space of 5 hours.

We started the day with leftovers sandwich and bun from MAS. And then I did the silliest thing ever. I locked our bags in the locker with the keys inside!!! Thank God the YHA has a large bolt cutter if not I really dunno what to do. What a super embarrassing moment for me! Haha

At 9.40am we headed out. Spotted fruit vendors at Berwick Street and so I bought 1/2 pounds cherries for only £1. It started to drizzle then.

We reached TKTS at Leicester Square about 10.30am and was expecting long queues but thankfully there were not many people. We took a bad turning (my bad for the navigation hence the nearly 1 hour walking journey! Haha). TKTS is the place to purchase theatre tickets at half and discount price for performance on the day and up to a week in advance.

Melbourne Day 3: Victoria Hall & Queen Victoria Market Again (Part 1)

Here’s Day 1’s & Day 2’s recap:
Melbourne Day 1: Federation Square, Hoiser Lane & Flinders Street Station

Melbourne Day 2: Queen Victoria Market, Royal Arcade & Block Arcade

I’ve been talking about Victoria Hall (known as Space Hotel now), my 3 days accommodation in Melbourne several times. Now let me take you in and around Victoria Hall. In my opinion hostel in Melbourne is quite expensive. That kind of money would have paid for a comfy stay in say 4 star hotel in Malaysia. Thank God it’s not New South Wales or Queensland or the accommodation $$ would be even high up. Yes, yes I convert la.

I found Victoria Hall through TripAdvisor (ranking 17/91 in Specialty Lodging). This hostel had poor and terrible reviews in the past. Since undergoing major renovation works (until end of 2010), the reviews have been improving to ‘very good’.

Victoria Hall. As you can see the rooftop, top floors and ground area are under renovation. The shared kitchen is currently at its sorry state. Functional but a little sore.
Our room is on the first floor – left most of this picture.
