Funfair: Happy Fun Park @ Bukit Tinggi, Klang

When was the last time you visited a funfair?

For me, it was more than a decade ago. The last one I went was held opposite Subang Parade at the used car area (once upon a time if I’m not mistaken).

However two weeks ago while I was having dinner at Bukit Tinggi, we saw a funfair held in the compound of Giant Hypermarket. What else? We had a go at it. No rides for me as I was REALLY full that night. I had a go at the games area though but all I win was a mini pink cow toy (come with suction to hang in the car).

Hehe better than nothing right?

I knew I had to come back again because this place is ideal to practice my night photography especially shutter priority mode, one which I rarely use. So I went back again last Friday (Wesak day). Had a hell of a time adjusting shutter speed. But then I ended up using manual mode for the 2nd half of the session as the shutter priority mode couldn’t produced what I wanted. This is my first time adjusting ISO, shutter speed and aperture all at one go with limited amount of time. Woah really interesting but my right hand ended up aching a bit after that. Haha

Nevertheless well worth lesson!

Hope you enjoy the photos I took at Happy Fun Park.
All photos were taken with my D80’s kit lens 18-135mm/3.5-5.5G.

Ferris Wheel.
With beautiful rainbow gondolas!

Love this angle with the light flare.

Chair-O-Planes.

This is what it looks like when I turn the shutter speed faster.

Kamikaze @ Skymaster.

This is one hell of a ride! Full force swinging and 360 degree turn. *me pengsan
Once there was this mother praying with her hands wide open (Islam) while the Skymaster tortured her teenage kids.

Paratrooper @ Umbrella Ride. No idea how this thing goes. Beware… deng deng deng

It opens up and become like this at full force… just like a spinning umbrella. Haha
Sure pening weh.

Bumper Car @ Dodgems! Oh I so wanna ride this.

Where should I focus actually? The background so that the cars are blurry?

Balloon Wheel @ Ferris Wheel.
This is the smaller version compared to the one I took ‘way’ above this post.

Space Car for the kids.

Safari Car.
Hey girls, WATCH where you’re going!!!
Don’t ‘kap’ leng chais wei. Hahaha

Here are some of the funfair stalls…

Realized we were scammed half way playing this game because no matter how you add up you will get low points. Low points = small prize. Cilaka!

Clockwise from left: dart game, ring toss game, duck pond game & balloon and dart game
Played the Ring Toss game. Bragged how good my aiming is (prior) but emerged as the red face gal! Hahaha

That’s all from Happy Fun Park. Do go there this weekend if you wanna have a funfair ‘feel’ and be kids again. Not sure how long they will be there. I didn’t see any notice.

p/s: Another one of my childhood dream fulfilled. Been dreaming of visiting a ‘local’ funfair for so long liao.

The fun fair is in town! I remember the Subang Parade one hehe, but I’ve never been inside.

I love your night photography shots! Did you use a tripod?

I like the night scenaries especially those that are blurred out in parts. Can’t even remember when was the last time I was at funfair…20+ years I think. I must be that old! πŸ™‚

Very nice night shots…especially the spinning fun fair… Do you think S90 can do such effect?

  • Reply lechua June 3, 2010 at 10:41 pm

hiya… wow i think u did a terrific job with the different shutter speeds… great effect with the long shutter speed for showing the SPEEEEED of the rides! & u didn’t have to use a tripod.. u’ve got pretty stable hands!

Dawn, yes I like those blurred effect too. US have lots of funfairs… guess you didn’t visit them. Hehe

Keeyit, Thank You. I’m not sure the function of S90 but I believe even a point and shoot camera can capture these settings really well too. Go try. πŸ™‚

Lechua, thank you thank you (tak malu). Haha. At least I’m not that afraid using shutter priority anymore. Still my biggest problem is capturing Chester. He keeps moving, moving & moving. I’m quite surprised at the sharpness of the photos too. It’s the same case when I shot the Chinese Opera (http://che-cheh.com/travel/backstage-chinese-opera-in-kuan-yin-temple-klang/)

hey! i wanted to visit de fun fair tomorrow so i google it and saw your post. Your photos are really nice. But is the fun fair ” fun ” ? and how about de pricing?

  • Reply Che-Cheh June 8, 2010 at 10:02 pm

Xiaoshuang, yes it’s fun. They have rides for adults and kids. 1 token cost RM2. Kids rides = 1 token. Most of the games and rides cost 2 tokens or more. I was a little shock at the pricing initially but then I must remind myself the last one I went was like more than a decade ago.

  • Reply xiaoshuang June 8, 2010 at 10:22 pm

    do they charge entry fees?

  • Reply Che-Cheh June 8, 2010 at 10:24 pm

Xiaoshuang, no entry fees. Even parking is free since you will be parking inside Giant. Hehe
