Kuan Yin Temple, Klang

I visited Kuan Yin Temple (Goddess of Mercy Temple), Klang on Wesak Day this year. I was so glad that I have my trusty D80 with me.

Kuan Yin Teng (fondly called by the Hokkiens in Klang) is over 100 years old. Its original temple is still under reconstruction. Words has it that the building was in dire condition due to termites. This temple was nearly demolished (thanks politicians) but saved by the Sultan of Selangor.

What you’ll see in the pictures below are from the new temple situated just beside the old one built not too long ago. Click for larger pictures (only if you have Flickr a/c)

I was a little shy to snap with my kick-a$$ camera at first. But as soon as I start clicking, I feel like I’m invincible (hide behind the camera ma!). And because I see no one is paying attention to me.

Stacks of incense, candles & paper money in bundles. Absolutely gorgeous view.

Take your pick. When you take one, please donate some $$ to the temple.

I so love this picture. My mom’s lighting the incense.

When you sees a beautiful angle & texture you know it’s going to look good in your viewfinder. Stairway to God.

Look at his gloves. My my…
He’s discarding the overflowing incense from the incense pot.

The final praying step is to burn the paper money. I asked my grandma she said it’s money because we called the paper ‘kim’. I’ve never thought of the ‘kim’ purpose before this. I actually thought that is our prayer message to God. We burn them so God can receive it.

Just so happened that I was waiting for my mom at the corner of the temple, saw this bicycle & immediately knew it’s going to be a good composition shot. I squatted, tilted my head, slanted my body, winced my eyes… and this is all I get. Not good enough. The building wouldn’t fit into my lens. I need wide angle!!!

Hope you enjoyed my pictures. I have more actually. But mostly the sky are over-exposed. Used +1 exposure for all the shots. Next time I’ll remember to change exposure to 0 or -1 for sky-involve shot.
