I spent my Christmas holiday at Singapore and on the TRAIN with my family. We made the decision to go to Singapore on one faithful morning during our dim sum breakfast on the first/second week of December. We went to KL Sentral to buy our train tickets immediately after our dim sum breakfast. LOL. Our main objective (sis and me) was to go to Star Wars Exhibiton at Singapore Science Center.
On 24th December (Saturday), we arrived at KL Sentral at about 9.10pm by Komuter. Then I found out that of all things, I forgot to bring our Singapore map from home!!! There’s only 1 book shop at KL Sentral selling maps. We bought the Singapore map at RM17.40 (expensive!!!).
Finally after a short wait we departed from KL Sentral by Senandung Malam (economy class) at 10.35pm to Singapore. I can’t sleep and felt very cold (even though I wore 3 pieces of clothing!). Then there was an idiot smoking outside the coach without closing the coach door. Later on I hanged out a little while outside the coach while the train was moving. Dad was talking to a train attendant. When our train stopped (for the other train to pass by), I saw some people were sleeping at the train’s cafe. That gave me an idea.
Dad and me then went to the train’s cafe for a cup of Milo each. Ahhh immediately I felt the effect. My whole body cooled down. Such a nice feeling. We slept there for awhile. LOL. Then we went back to our coach and surprisingly I managed to close my eyes at around 3am. Yes it was SO uncomfortable!!! π
We reached Tanjong Pagar Railway Station at 8.50am (1 hour delayed!). This means the journey to Singapore took us 10hours plus!!! We walked to Tanjong Pagar MRT from Tanjong Pagar Railway Station for 20 mins (the details from internet promised us 10mins only wor). I kept mentioning to them (my family) that we need to cancel some of our plans because we were late but nobody bother me. I guess I must be a fly buzzing around their head on a sleepy Christmas morning.
After much deliberation (whether to have our breakfast at any shop the moment we see one or follow our plan and go to Chinatown), we choose to follow our original plan. So Chinatown here we come. My dad immediately recognized the dessert shop that he tried out last year at Chinatown. However that shop was still close. Bad luck man. We ate at McD for breakfast (directly opposite the dessert shop). Our breakfast at McD costs us RM46!!!! (we have hotcakes, hash browns, eggs, coffees and fish burgers). By the time we finished our breakfast the dessert shop opens its door (at 10.30am). My dad tapau 5 dumplings from the shop. We did warned him that he’s gonna have some trouble carrying 5 heavy dumplings around Singapore but he insisted. So we have our first purchase of the day.
On the way back to Chinatown MRT, mom did some shopping at Chinatown. I helped mom tried out 2 pairs of beaded shoe (from Korea) and she ended up buying both pairs (pink and cream color). 8)
Then we headed to Jurong East MRT at 11am for the Star Wars Exhibition at Singapore Science Center. We reached Jurong East at 11.30am. We decided to travel by bus instead of walking to Singapore Science Center (we walked the last time out for the LO

… used to hang out at the buffet koc too when my friends n i travelled on trains during our student yrs. we usually bought sleeping berth, so b4 we called it quits for the nite, we grouped together for snacks n chats with the attendant there. wonder if it’s the same staff at the koc. :))
do hope that the exhibition is as good as it sounds when i go there.
did u try the ‘jedi gym’? are u a jedi master as u claimed to be or merely a pretender!!! heh!heh!
So you were in Singapore.. didn’t know you can still purchase tickets down to here when X’mas is already impending.
And oh come on.. Yakun Kaya Toast can’t be tat good… hehe

I tried out the balancing, reflex and force acts and pretended to be clumsy. I’m not a show off kind of Jedi Master you know. You can try out ‘mind game’. Unfortunately I didn’t managed to tried that out. Too many people.
Beer Brathb, Yeah not many people travel on a night train. Only the morning train’s tickets were sold out.
Oklah, maybe Yakun Kaya Toast is the only kaya toast shop that we have tasted. Any good shop/restaurant that you can recommend in Singapore ?

I was in S’pore too, towards the end of November. Didn’t stay til Christmas. Accomodation would be pricey. You didn’t spend a night there, which was ok. But surely, tiring! I went to the Science Centre too, which was great and y’know when we visit these places, we tend to compare with the ones available back home, lol. Malaysian one abit.. don’t know lah. To be fair, I haven’t visited our National Science Ctr for many, many years already.
We drove. It was our first time driving down to Singapore. Learnt lotsa new things. Like.. the traffic system! The traffic light junctions took a little getting used to. I went to Queensway Plaza with my sisters, sans our parents – by bus. Man, what an experience. Did alot of asking-arounds, tried to act local but I think we looked like tourists. The bus driver asked me, “Where are you from?”. I was like…”Er, actually, I’m from KL”. Then he said “Oh! First time is it? Actually, I am from KL also. Majority of the bus drivers here also Malaysians. I’m from Cheras!”. Whoa I felt so like home. Very hospitable.
On the way back, I boarded the same bus, with the same driver! What are the odds?? I thanked him for the tips (he gave some pointers on commuting around S’pore). The MRT wasm basically idiot-proof, provided satisfactory service. But I accidentally brought home their MRT ticket (supposed to return to get our SG$1 deposit). I held on to it thinking that we’d take the MRT again on our way home. Mana tau we boarded the direct bus back to hotel instead. Sentosa was really really fun. Later Mom said “Of course fun la. Few hundred ringgit there already leh!”. I could only keep quiet… :-s
It was nice lah. Other places like the Esplanade and Night Safari were interesting, too. And yeah, after conversion, the expenditure really sky-high!!
Narrowband, Are there many cool stuffs at Queensway Plaza ? Would like to check out Queensway Plaza and Night Safari next time. Been to Sentosa Island 10yrs ago but surely there’s lot of new stuff going on. Ohhh must save save save.
