Meet My New Oven

Updated on 24th July 2023: Oven is 16 years old & still going strong! πŸ’ͺ
Kee Huat Radio no longer sells oven, etc. But they still provide servicing.

Yes! Yes! Yes! I’ve finally bought an oven. It all started when I was looking through The Star paper few weeks back and chance upon an advertisement by Kee Huat Radio showcasing their free standing Europa OvenMate electric oven.

We visited Kee Huat Radio’s showroom at Sea Park last Saturday. Our main objective is to have a look and get information about that oven. From what I gathered from the salesperson, Europa OvenMate is an Italian brand, all internal oven parts are made from Italy but is assemble in Kee Huat Radio’s plant at Shah Alam.

Would you have a yellow or red oven in your kitchen? No right? Ugly hor? That’s why they stop selling color oven. But my mom said they’re pretty.

There are also free standing cookers (cooker + oven),

Clothes dryer and washing machine samples at the showroom.

This free standing electric oven, Valencia retails at RM1198 but is selling at a discounted price of RM980.

VALENCIA 688E specification:
* Dimensions : 675 (H) x 500 (W) x 575 (D) mm
* Electric Oven
* Electric Grill
* Thermostat Control
* Bell Timer
* Oven Lamp
* Jet Cook System (produce even heat distribution)
* Oven Sliding Grille : 2 Sets
* Oven Capacity : 52 litres

We didn’t plan to buy the oven on the day itself. But due to the persuasiveness of the salesperson and my dad (would you believe it he said: Buy now la. Since we’re already here. Do you want to make another trip here?), we bought the oven.

Come meet my new oven, Europa OvenMate VALENCIA 688E. Yeah, it’s cute and short hor. We placed Miss Valencia on a wooden stand. To make her taller, we place our microwave on her head.

Currently, I’m looking for a dog cake recipe. I promised Chester I will bake a cake for his birthday. As for you guys, I can only show ‘mouth-watering’ cookies and cake pictures lor.

p/s: I would like to express my displeasure at the staff who attended us. This is the first time in my life as a customer that I was told to unpack our purchase from the storeroom all by ourselves. It wasn’t easy unpacking the oven because the oven was surrounded by planks that are nailed together. We were brought to the backroom and dad was asked to disengage the planks with a hammer. Where was that staff? Attending another customer outside.

Too bad I’ve already paid for the oven. If not I would storm out of there immediately.

  • Reply Hijackqueen November 19, 2007 at 9:59 am

    If I were you, for that price, I will get a microwave oven. Don’t you think paying for just the oven is not worth it? Plus that oven is quite bulky ler.

  • Reply Che-Cheh November 20, 2007 at 1:18 pm

    Hijackqueen, we prefer those conventional oven because they are more spacious because they can bake alot more. Plus we already have a normal oven at home. Somehow we don’t really like using mircowave a lot…not really good for health lor.

    hi there, i’ve been looking for a europa oven and found your comments here..very useful indeed..tq, but i wonder if u can tell me how much was the price last time? many thanks.

  • Reply Naz09 March 14, 2010 at 2:39 pm

    hehe..i wrote that message before seeing others’ inquiry to you..i got it already..its RM980..but im not sure if we can get that price now.. i ask around and its 1K++ i wonder if that price is ok..thanks again.

  • Reply Che-Cheh March 15, 2010 at 1:01 pm

    Hi Naz09, I bought the oven at RM980 during sales. Retail price is RM1198. I saved RM218! Hmm depending whether you need to use the oven urgently. If you don’t need to use the oven now, why not wait during sales period?

    But then RM1198 is cheap compared to other ‘branded’ ovens.

  • Reply Simonne May 20, 2010 at 11:12 am

  • Reply Che-Cheh May 21, 2010 at 9:25 am

    Simonne, Hi it’s not a new oven. 3 years old already. πŸ™‚
    I’m not sure about the max pan size but looking at the dimension, probably it can fit more than 40cm pan size I guess. [Dimensions : 675 (H) x 500 (W) x 575 (D) mm]

    Hi, Che-Cheh.

    Good choice for oven. I’ve used mine for almost 19 yrs now, only twice ‘broke-down’ but repair was less than RM100 each time. Really worth it, considering sometimes I bake for 12 hrs straight. Back then, it was only RM600. Hehe.

    Cheers frm me.

    I bought one of these ovens too two years ago. Gave me good service. But recently started giving me problem. It would die off half way through the baking, about an hour or so after starting. Very infurating to have half-baked (literally) cakes!
    Electrician said plug of the power cord and also the wall plug could be the problem but didnt work. Anyone experienced this problem? any suggestions

    • Reply Che-Cheh November 24, 2013 at 10:29 pm

      Hi Jaypee, maybe you can try contacting Kee Huat for advice or try another electrician.

  • Reply Fieza June 23, 2015 at 8:52 pm

    Hi Amy, I know this is an old post, but I was researching for this oven cause I wanted to buy it (originally wanted to buy the new one, but it’s out of my price range πŸ™ )and I found your blog πŸ˜€ I was wondering how many oven racks can fit inside this oven? Do you use all the racks or just the middle one? Cause usually people will complain about the top and the bottom racks cause food can get burnt. Do they sell all the racks to you, or do you have to buy extra racks? Thanks!

    • Reply Che-Cheh June 23, 2015 at 10:31 pm

      Hi Fieza, the oven can fit 4 racks and 1 tray and they provide all 4 racks and 1 tray to us. I usually use the middle rack. The top rack and bottom rack are rarely use… depending on recipe. If your oven is too hot, you can reduce the temperature. So it’s good to have an oven thermometer.

      • Reply Fieza June 26, 2015 at 2:49 pm

        Thanks for the reply! May I know what is the size of the tray that you use? So that it can fit inside the oven? And you said that the oven can only fit 1 tray, does that mean if I want to fit in 2 trays, it can’t fit?
        Cause I want to buy extra trays so it’ll be faster to bake cookies for example.

        Thanks!

        • Reply Che-Cheh June 26, 2015 at 9:07 pm

          Hi Fieza, I have various tray sizes. Don’t worry normally the tray size is standard so it should be able to fit into the oven. Just don’t buy longer tray. The oven has 4 racks and 1 tray. The tray is a dip tray I think. I’ve never used it before. It has 4 racks, meaning you can fit 4 baking trays into the oven.

          • Fieza June 27, 2015 at 1:38 am

            Oh that makes sense. Thank you so much Amy! You’ve been really helpful! πŸ™‚

    Hi che cheh.. i love to have one like you. Before i really buy it, can you give some tips in baking cokies or puff, because many of comment say that this oven can baking them evenly. How about the way you baking cake? Do they rise and bake nicely. Hope you can share with me the way to handle this oven. Tqvm

    • Reply Che-Cheh January 24, 2016 at 10:55 pm

      Hi Oven Hopping, after nearly 9 years of usage I’m still satisfied with the oven. Handling of oven depends on each oven as they have their own characteristics. If you want to see my bakes good, you can visit messywitchen.com. All baking in my food blog was done with this oven.

  • Reply Oven Hopping January 24, 2016 at 7:19 pm
